Taghazout Surf & Yoga Retreat
Overview
Taghazout doesn't care about your to-do list.
This fishing village turned surf mecca runs on swell reports and sunrise schedules — and for six days, so do you. Certified surf instructors take you from nervous beginner to reading waves by Day 3. Sunset yoga sessions on the rooftop reset your nervous system every evening. Day 4 is a complete break: Essaouira's ancient blue medina, its ocean ramparts, and the best fish you'll eat in Morocco.
By Day 6, you're in the water, the ocean has stopped feeling like an adversary, and you understand why some people come here for a week and don't leave for six months.
How this tour is different
Surf retreats exist everywhere. This one earns its reputation through two things most competitors separate: serious coaching quality and genuine yoga integration.
- ISA-certified coaches (not just experienced local surfers — internationally certified surf instructors who understand progression and can diagnose why you're falling at a technical level)
- Yoga designed for surfing — not a generic yoga class in the same building as the surf school; a program where the morning session addresses the specific muscle groups you'll use in the water, and the evening session addresses the strain you accumulated
- Video analysis — your instructor films sessions so you can see what you actually look like on a wave versus what you imagine; the improvement between Day 1 and Day 5 footage is always dramatic
- Essaouira on Day 4 — a full rest day from the ocean that paradoxically refreshes your surfing the next day
Is this trip right for you?
Perfect if: You've always wanted to surf and have never had the right environment to learn — warm water, consistent small waves, patient certified instruction, and a week where nothing else competes for your attention. Also great for intermediate surfers who've plateaued and want dedicated coaching.
Also great for: Solo travelers (the group dynamic is a major part of the experience), couples where one partner surfs and one wants to start, yoga practitioners who want to try surfing. Fitness level: reasonable — surfing is physically demanding, especially for beginners.
Not ideal if: You're an advanced surfer looking for serious barrels — Taghazout's beginner breaks won't challenge you. Or if you want a passive beach holiday; this retreat requires showing up every day.

Santa Cruz, CA, USAAs a California surfer, I didn't expect much from Morocco's waves — boy was I wrong. The breaks here are incredible, the water's warmer than NorCal, and the yoga sessions at sunset overlooking the ocean were heavenly. Coming back!

Honolulu, HI, USAWe've done retreats in Bali, Costa Rica, and Portugal — Taghazout has the best value and vibe of all of them. The surf house felt like home, the instructors were top-notch, and the affordability means we're already planning our return.

Family, May 2025Kids learned about Morocco by doing things, not sitting through lectures. The cooking class, the carpet weaving, village stay—all interactive and fun.

Austin, TX, USANeither of us had ever surfed. By day 3 we were riding whitewater with actual control. By day 5 Tyler was paddling out to the green wave. The instructors knew exactly how to read each person's level and push them without overwhelming them. The yoga at sunrise was the perfect counterbalance — we've never felt that rested on a vacation in our lives.

Miami, FL, USAI came solo and left with five people I'll keep in touch with. The villa's vibe is exactly right — communal breakfast, shared sessions, personal space when you want it. Taghazout itself is special: local fishermen, a couple of surf shops, cats everywhere. Nothing fake. The food was better than any surf camp I've done in Bali or the Canaries.
