format_quote Traveler Reviews

I've done Whitney, Rainier, and several Colorado 14ers. Toubkal is a different kind of hard — sustained elevation gain on rocky terrain, real altitude at the top. The guide and mule team meant I carried almost nothing over a day pack. Summit at 5:30am in a 360° sunrise was worth every step. Don't attempt this solo.

We're moderate hikers and were honest about that when booking. The guide calibrated the pace perfectly. The refuge night was a highlight in itself: wood stove, hot soup, trekkers from 8 countries at the same table. The summit at dawn the next morning was one of the great travel moments of our lives.

Came for the summit. Stayed for the Atlas Mountain villages on the way up — terraced Berber farms at 2,000m that look completely unchanged from 500 years ago. The guide explained what each crop was and why certain fields face certain directions. Toubkal alone is enough reason to go to Morocco.
